About Us
Adrianne’s Angels - St. George Pet Rescue was founded on March 31, 2009. Mrs. Adrianne St. George, an avid lover of pets, was always deeply concerned about humane care and shelter for abandoned animals. In her honor and memory, her husband Alan organized Adrianne’s Angels.
Mission Statement
The mission of Adrianne's Angels - St. George Pet Rescue, is to provide assistance and protection to homeless, abused or lost companion animals, to promote awareness about Spay/Neuter, to educate the public about compassion and responsibility toward all animals, and to maintain a "Trap-Neuter-Return" program to reduce pet overpopulation. We are a 501c3 organization and our goal is to improve the lives of animals through nutrition, love and restoring their dignity.

ALAN ST. GEORGE - PRESIDENT
Alan is the founder and President of Facemakers, Inc. the world's largest animal costume and mascot maker, which he established when he was just 19 years old.
Adrianne's Angels created in memory of Alan's late wife, who was the original founding member of the Humane Society of Carroll County almost 30 years ago.
It was said that when "Mrs. St. George entered a room, the lights and music went on, and when she left, they went out." In a loving wish to keep some of the lights on, Alan formed the St. George Pet Rescue as a tribute to Adrianne.
Alan and Adrianne provided homes to quite a few "rescue dogs" over the years. Truffles, Bon Bon, Vermeil and Jewels, who are pictured under "related links", reside at Havencrest today.
Alan's philanthropy and generosity are well known in Carroll County. His love and compassion for animals make him a natural choice for our group.

LORNA MAY - VICE PRESIDENT
Hi! I would like to tell you something about myself and our group. We all have very different backgrounds, but the one thing we all have in common is compassion and a great love for animals.
I grew up in Chicago and was born in 1951. My parents were "dog people" and wouldn't even consider a cat. A few doors down there was a neighbor that was know as "Harry the Cat Man". Harry was a one man cat rescue for the strays in the neighborhood and looking back now, I realize my first inspiration.
Harry had a high wooden fence around his property to keep his "babies" protected. The cats would sit on the fence posts and look down like gargoyles, safe under the umbrella of Harry's love. At the end of the day if the cats were not in the yard, Harry would walk down the street calling to them. "Omarr....Winnifred.....Oscar......". Like the Pied Piper you would see Harry head for home with a group of cats trailing behind him. Harry was often the object of ridicule and I remember asking myself as a child, why is it wrong to have so much love for something, you choose to make it your life?
I left home as soon as I was old enough and got my own place. It was a beautiful spring day and I left the door open for the breeze.....and apparently a cat. An all white, male kitten wandered in and spent the rest of his life with me. My evolution as a "Catlady" had begun.
Fast forward to Dec. 2000 when we moved to Mt. Carroll. I noticed all the ferals in the area and immediately became obsessed with helping them. The years that followed were full of trial and error, networking, research and caretaking. To date I have pulled 331 cats and kittens off the streets of Carroll County. They were placed in homes or released after being neutered if they were too feral. In the December 2005 issue of Cat Fancy, I was acknowledged for my work with cats. I love all animals but my affinity for felines seems the strongest.
We are a new group and struggling to get on our feet, but I am not worried. The interest and commitment we all have to make a difference, is a driving force that will end suffering for many more animals in the years to come.
Please support us. We do not have a shelter but pet food and veterinary care are not optional. Spay/Neuter is one of our biggest goals as pet overpopulation is the root of this problem. We work hard to cover these needs but depend on donations, fundraisers and your greatly appreciated generosity.

JAMES MANTLE - TREASURER
Jim grew up on a farm in Yorkshire, England. His love for animals started at a young age. He enjoyed playing with the calves, kittens and horses and would have been content to spend the rest of his life on a farm. Upon completion of his schooling Jim's father advised him to find work in an area where he felt Jim would have more opportunities. This definitely turned out to be the case and in 1979 Jim was offered a transfer to a company in California, where he met his future wife Mary LaShelle. The Mantles saved dogs and cats in Southern California until they moved to Shannon, IL. in 1996. Shannon also has a problem with feral cats and the Mantles always did their best to get help for the homeless.
We were thrilled when Jim accepted the role of Treasurer because he brought to the table a wealth of practical business knowledge. After retiring from his profession as an Aerospace Engineer, Jim served as Mayor of Shannon from 2001 till 2009. He was also the Treasurer and Vice President of the Northern Illinois Mayor's Association from 2007 till 2009.
Since Jim and Mary do everything together we get double the help we need on things. The Mantles have what Mary refers to as "the best Cat House in Shannon".

CINDY MIERZWA - DIRECTOR
Hello, my name is Cindy Mierzwa, and more recently know as Murphy’s mom. I am the owner of Fur the Luv of Dogs in Mount Carroll, IL. I have two canine kids… Murphy and Sophia they are “show dogs” and are part of my family. I believe in teaching owners how to build a proper canine/human relationship. It is my philosophy that creating a relationship built on positive interaction and consistency can often deter future unwanted behavior problems, facilitate faster learning and even solve some existing behavioral challenges. I am committed to training and consulting people who have or wanting a dog as a member of the family. I am thrilled to be part of Adrianne’s Angel’s and hope that as a director I will be able to reach out to those in need of help.
